HEALTH EDUCATION, SANITATION & HYGIENE
Health education is an integral part of MBOSCUDA’s activities as it seeks to promote & facilitate access to primary healthcare, knowledge of general health & nutrition in collaboration with service providers and partners. In this domain, MBOSCUDA working in collaboration with many partners that include but are not limited Government Technical Service, Churches, Health Institutions, and International NGOs like Plan International, and CARE-Cameroon etc.). Below are some of the key achievements on the work MBOSCUDA is carrying out with the particular partners/collaborators mentioned here.
a) MBOSCUDA/ PLAN-HACI (Hope for the African Children Initiative)
project is a synthesis of HIV/AIDS awareness creation and support to Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) who are as a result of the pandemic and very poor economic backgrounds. HIV/AIDS/ circle of hope trainings carried out in 10 Mbororo communities. More than 350 Mbororo women, men and youths have been sensitised and enrolled in the fight against HIV/AIDS and 844 OVCs identified and supported with basic school needs and fees. Educated the community members on the importance of supporting OVCs in their respective communities. The aim of this was to enable participants to know that supporting OVCs is not an exclusive activity of the NGOs and MBOSCUDA but that of the community members as well.
- In collaboration with the NW Government Technical Group for the fight against HIV/AIDS, all MBOSCUDA Staff and some key community members have been trained on the fight against HIV/Aids. The training provided them the capacity/skills to sensitized the Mbororo communities of the NWR for long.
- MBOSCUDA/CARE- Cameroon project in 2005 also helped in the Mobilization, sensitization and training on HIV/AIDS of 400 Mbororo men, women and youths in 10 targeted communities. This was accompanied by voluntary counselling and testing of at least 100 people in the targeted communities. Support is also provided for the treatment of at least 10 people identified living with HIV/AIDS in the 10 targeted communities of the NWR.
- The project also provided financial assistance and necessary trainings on income generating activities to at least 4 of the 10 targeted communities. Also support on education and nutrition is specifically provided to 40 other orphans identified in the targeted communities.
It is worth noting that MBOSCUDA as an umbrella organization of the Mbororo communities has been setting up a series of strategies to fight HIV/AIDS within the Mbororo communities. In this light therefore, MBOSCUDA put in place a monitoring mechanism to ensure the sustainability of the above mentioned projects. The organisation and communities have also been sourcing up support to a number of OVCs identified through the projects.
Also, in the adult literacy component of MBOSCUDA, HIV/AIDS modules are facilitated by the staff, paralegals and community facilitators to participants. Finally, in every Mbororo gathering where MBOSCUDA is present, sensitisation messages are always echoed to the audience on continuous basis.
Also, support from other partners and collaborators like Village AiD UK, Concern Universal (now called United Purpose UK), the University of Pennsylvania USA & University Yaoundé 1 Cameroon and others supported MBOSCUDA to implement different other projects on health for many years in the entire NWR.
