CALL FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF A MEDIA CONSULTANT

SUBJECT : Call for Applications for the recruitment of a consultant to train and sensitize media houses on cultural diversity and cultural rights issues

The Mbororo Social and Cultural Development Association (MBOSCUDA) is a membership-based organization established in 1992 by the Mbororo pastoralists of Cameroon. It is a national organization with autonomous regional chapters in 7 out of the 10 regions of Cameroon.

MBOSCUDA’s vision is a peaceful Cameroon where Mbororo pastoralists secure sustainable development and equal rights in a healthy environment. Its mission is to work with grassroots communities to achieve their human, economic, social and cultural needs, and to empower them through collaboration at all levels.

MBOSCUDA is collaborating with the North West Farmers’ Organization (NOWEFOR) and United Purpose UK to implement a project on Cultural Dialogue titled “Bridging the gap: safeguarding peace and human rights by promoting intercultural dialogue in North West Region of Cameroon. This project is funded by the European Union and has as main objective to strengthen social cohesion in the North West Region of Cameroon through promotion of intercultural dialogue and cultural rights.

The project will carry out training and sensitization of different categories of journalists of the different media houses (TV, Radio, Print and Bloggers or on-line media) on cultural diversity and cultural rights issues and how to report on these issues.

This activity aims to strengthen the capacity of media houses in order to raise more awareness and understanding of cultural diversity and cultural rights as stipulated by the international (UNESCO convention) and national instruments (Cameroon Government initiatives / policies).

This activity is aimed at strengthening the media’s awareness and understanding of cultural diversity and to stimulate the journalists interest in view of enhancing their participation in the promotion of cultural rights through reporting.  Three initial workshops of 3 days each will be organized for 3 separate categories: radio and TV practitioners, bloggers (on-line) and print media practitioners. Each workshop will target 15-20 participants. Trained journalists will be accompanied to produce and broadcast programmes on cultural diversity and cultural rights.

It is for this reason MBOSCUDA is advertising to get a consultant who is a media specialist, with a demonstrated experience on diversity issues. The expected consultant will be hired to facilitate the workshops and provide support to the media practitioners throughout the project period.
