Across the globe, climate and environmental crises are reshaping how societies think about food and development. In Cameroon, where agriculture remains the backbone of the economy, farmers face worsening soil degradation, unpredictable rainfall, and shrinking yields. In response, MBOSCUDA (Mbororo Social and Cultural Development Association) has taken decisive action through the Agroecology Project AEF – 9th Edition, implemented in partnership with INADES-Formation and other stakeholders dedicated to sustainable development.
The AEF project promotes an agriculture that respects the environment, supports livelihoods, and strengthens social justice. By blending traditional knowledge with innovative techniques, the project bridges the gap between ancestral wisdom and modern sustainability. Its mission is clear: to help farming communities produce better, protect their environment, and secure their future.
What makes MBOSCUDA’s approach unique is its participatory and inclusive nature. Farmers are not passive beneficiaries but active partners in change. Through practical training, on-field demonstrations, and farmer field schools, communities learn how to apply agroecological principles to their daily lives. This participatory learning process encourages local ownership and ensures that sustainable practices become part of community culture.
Women stand at the forefront of this transformation. Recognizing their central role in food production and household management, the project empowers them with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to lead. Training sessions, mentorship, and technical support foster women’s leadership and contribute to their economic and social empowerment — a vital driver of long-term sustainability.
The youth are also a major focus. By introducing them to green jobs and agro-based entrepreneurship, AEF gives young people new reasons to stay in rural areas and invest their creativity in agriculture. It redefines farming as a modern, dignified, and promising career path, ensuring that the next generation carries forward the principles of sustainability.
At the organizational level, a participatory governance structure ensures coordination, transparency, and effective monitoring. A dedicated steering committee oversees every stage of implementation, ensuring that each activity contributes meaningfully to community well-being and ecological balance.
Only months after its launch, the impact of this 9th edition is already visible. More farmers are adopting sustainable practices, communities are mobilizing around environmental preservation, and local leaders are recognizing the value of working hand in hand with nature. Beyond these tangible results, the greatest success lies in the shift of mindset – a renewed sense of connection between people and their land, and a shared vision of resilience.
Through the AEF project, MBOSCUDA reaffirms its leadership in Cameroon’s ecological and social transition. More than a program, AEF represents a collective commitment – a vision of solidarity, justice, and sustainability for a brighter future.
By sowing sustainability today, we are truly cultivating hope for tomorrow.
